Visit the Canyons.

Only 40mins away from Vilar are the Canyons of the rivers Sil and Mino .They are canyons of outstanding beauty with vineyards of the Ribeira Sacra. Lose yourself in the peace and tranquillity of these stunning natural landmarks.

Take a picnic and spend time either by the river or high up overlooking the Canyons and enjoy the beauty and wonder of the unspoilt natural habitat. There is also a boat twice daily offering a guided tour of the canyons. (More details in the house)

Visit the Route of the Old Water Mills

Set on the banks of the River Xabrega are a line of six old water mills. Enjoy a walk along the shady footpath running by and over the river and see the ruins of the original mills and some that have been semi restored. Some of the original mills have natural stone channels of water feeding the water wheels that powered the mills.

The footpath at the end brings you out to a Mirador (view point) over looking the canyons de Sil.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Santiago de Compostela- with its historical and religious background is just over 1 hours drive from Vilar.
Ourense - is situated on the river Mino.The town has an attractive triangle of stepped streets,a cathedral, and little churches squeezed into miniature arcaded squares. Ourense boasts 5 bridges along the Mino, the oldest being Roman and the newest a feat of architectural excellence. This town also has its own thermal springs (As Burgas) and it is also a good city to go shopping.
Vigo-is a large city set on the bay of the Rias Baxas. This is an important city in terms of the fishing industry. However step back from the quay onto cobbled streets and antiquated houses.Vigo boasts a wealth of superb seafood restaurants.
Lugo-is built on a Celtic site above the river Mino. It is the only Spanish town that remains completely enclosed within Roman walls. This is a beautiful city to wander around or to have a meal on the Plaza Mayor. The city of Lugo Roman walls have been declared a World's heritage site. Other interesting monuments to see there are: the Cathedral, the Episcopal Palace, the Provincial Museum and the remains of a Roman spa resort.
